Song of Yaoel (or Jah-El, same as english Joel)

Taken from The Apocalypse of Abraham -  (combined from two translations)

This apocrypha text is a supposed account of Abram's calling and covenanting sacrifice recorded in Genesis 15:6-21. During the sacrifice, Abram ascends and sees the Chariot Throne of God and is taught a Song of Praise by the angel Yaoel. The portions below include the identifying of the angel Yaoel (Jah-El) and the Heavenly Song he teaches Abraham while bowing before the Merkabah (Living Chariot Throne) of God. Of interest here, in our endeavor to war with angels against darkness, is how this angel sent to Abraham after Abraham has successfully resisted the worship of demons in the idols of his father, is an angel who wars against leviathans and reptiles, i.e. dragons and lesser spirits. He seems to get this lion-taming skill from getting in the middle of wrestling cherubim :). The prayer of binding given Abraham by Yaoel to take authority against Azazel has been put on this site in the Exorcism section. Here we have presented the Song of Yaoel to be used in the time of preparation for exorcism in worship. If you read this apocryphal writing, you will recognize Abraham was called up to heaven as a commissioning for his life mission, part of which was to become a warrior, natural and supernatural, as depicted in Genesis with the saving of Lot and rewarding encounter with Melchizedek. Abraham is VERY AWARE of the Heaven-Earth realms and the warfare, which is why the Lord also comes to him later in the matter of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Portions where Yaoel Identifies himself

"I heard the voice speaking, Go, Yaoel (Jah-El) of the same name (meaning the angel has the same name as God), through the meditation of my ineffable name, consecrate this man for me and strengthen him against his trembling. ... I am Yaoel and I was called so by him who causes those with me on the seventh expanse, on the firmament, to shake, a power through the medium of his ineffable name (that is dwelling) in me. I am the one who has been charged according to his commandment, to restrain the threats of the living creatures of the cherubim against one another, and I teach those who carry the song through the medium of man’s night of the seventh hour. I am appointed to hold the Leviathans, because through me is subjugated the attack and menace of every reptile. I am ordered to loosen Hades and to destroy those who wondered at the dead."

Note in these portions where Yaoel identifies himself how it is the Name of the Lord supernaturally in Yaoel which yields him the power and authority to both play (ha ha - very scary!) with the divinely wild cherubim as well as conquer the dark entities. I also love how the angels name is itself part of the Song and becomes the crescendoing praise of God's Name. This type of victory song also takes place in other places. In Exodus 15 with Pharoah. In Exodus 17 Amalek, representing demonically motivated forces who wait to attack us when we are tired and worn out, presents the idea of our hand together with God's being raised up to be put upon God's throne as a sign of absolute victory over evil entities. See the Strong's word meanings in Ex. 17:16. Paul in 2 Corinthians 1:19,20 also has this idea. The Yes! in our spirit is the same cry of victory over evil. The shout to Jah! sounds like a big cry of Yes!

Song of  Yaoel

"Eternal, Mighty, Holy El, God Only, Supreme

You who are the Self-originated, the Beginningless One, Incorruptible,

Spotless, Uncreated, Immaculate, Immortal, Self-complete, Self-illuminating,

Without father, without mother, Unbegotten,

Exalted, Fiery One! Lover of men, Benevolent One, Bountiful One,

Jealous over me, and very compassionate, Eli (Lofty Ascending One) , My God,

Eternal, Jehovah Zebaioth (Sabbath), Very Glorious El, El, El, El, (Yaoel) Jah El!

You are the One whom my soul has loved!

Eternal Protector, Shining like Fire, Whose voice is like the thunder, Whose look is like the lightning,

You are the All-seeing One, Who receives the prayers of all such as honor You,

And turn away the requests of those who embarrass You with their provocations
Who dissolves the confusions of the world which arise from the ungodly and the righteous mixed up in the confusion of the corruptible age,

And renewing the age of the righteous,

Shine 0 Lord, shine as a light, even as that Light (Heb 1:2,3) with which you clothed Yourself on the first day of creation,
Shine as the Light of the Morning on Your creatures

And let it be Day upon Earth,

For in these heavenly dwelling places there is no need of any other light
Than the unspeakable splendor from the Light of Your Countenance,

O answer my prayer, 0 be well-pleased with it,

O accept (the sacrifice which you yourself made to yourself through me as I searched for You)

Accept me favorably, and show me, teach me, all that You have promised!"

Immanence of  God

The song above is immediately followed by this next portion:

"And as I was still reciting the song, the mouth of the fire which was on the firmament was rising up on high. And I heard a voice like the roaring of the sea, and it did not cease (on account of the rich abundance of the fire). And as the fire rose up, soaring to the highest point, I saw under the fire a throne of fire and the many-eyed ones round about, reciting the song, under the throne four fiery living creatures, singing."

Here we see Abram is put INTO the fiery terror of the Lord. This is what should overtake us, in some measure, as it did on the day of Pentecost. This is that which makes the demons tremble and instills fear into the people so that they repent and praise God and the forces of darkness scatter. Without this baptism, again, in some measure, we cannot utter directives to evil and plunder it. This is the idea behind portions in The Dead Sea Scrolls in the sections that follow:

Incantation of the Sage (4Q444)

"As for me, I am the Dread of God. He  opened my mouth with the knowledge of His truth and ... empowered by His Holy Spirit...in order to battle evil spirits."

The Songs of the Sage for Protection Against Evil Spirits (4Q510-511)

Fragment 1: "And I, the Instructor, proclaim His glorious splendor so as to frighten and to te[rrify] all the spirits of the destroying angels, spirits of the bastards (hybrid woman-angel offspring, the giants, the nephilim), demons (all sorts - Earth-born nephilim or those of ancient pre-Adamic or celestial origin) , Lilith (Isaiah 34:14, the group of first principal witches that Enoch calls sirens who married fallen angels and produced the first generation of huge nephilim - in my opinion), howlers (monsters, animal-angel offspring, ref Book of Giants), and [desert dwellers…] and those which fall upon men without warning... Sing for joy, O righteous ones, for the God of Wonder"

(A read of the Testament of Solomon will give you an idea of the diversity of demons and monsters)

511 Fragment 1: "Let them rejoice before the righteous God, with shouts of joy for salvation for there is no destroyer within their borders nor do wicked spirits walk among them. For the glory of the God of knowledge has shone forth through His words..."

Fragment 35: "... a judgement of vengeance to wipe out wickedness and by fierce anger of God among those who have been refined sevenfold. But God will consecrate some of the holy ones for Himself as an eternal sanctuary; a refining among those who are purified. And they shall be priests, His righteous people, His army, and ministers, His glorious angels (sent ones). They shall praise Him for His awe-inspiring wonders."
